Are you ready to SpeakNAKED
I was recently asked to speak at a Not-For-Profit organization. Specifically, they wanted me to “SpeakNAKED”. Well not really naked; but they wanted me to teach them how to “Think outside of the box; Be more creative; Remove the ‘rules’ of the game” so they could really reach their audience. They wanted more freedom!… or did they
“Awesome” I said; ”SpeakNAKED is just for you. You will be able to drop the props, improve your platform skills, and amp up your presentation. This talk is all about letting go of the crutches and standing there with nothing other than your words; just you, the audience and your message. You will be NAKED (figuratively speaking). After we have stripped away everything that you don’t really need; we can then add in the tools to make you more powerful.”
The Program Director was excited and could not wait. “I love the title… it is so provocative and really speaks to the freedom that we want on the platform”…. and then it happened.
“Dawnna, there are people on the board that are concerned about the title. I like it but they really want me to change it. They are afraid of what it says about our organization” ; she reluctantly said.
Now I want you to think about the initial request, “We want freedom; we want to remove the rules of the game; we want to be more creative”. I guess they should have added, “As long as we can color in the lines, follow the guidelines; and put a check in the appropriate box”.
So, do I change the name or do I remain UNAPOLOGETIC about the name SpeakNAKED?
What do you think? What do you think I did?
