It has been my experience that finding an expert coach or guru on a given topic can be a challenge, as there are often people who claim to know something, but can’t always back it up when push comes to shove. I also know that I am not the only one that knows a little about a lot of things, which makes me a fun Trivial Pursuit player, but also a little dangerous if someone thinks I know more than I really do and expecting me to have all of the answers. But if there were a way to bring real, human knowledge about business to one platform, and to create an environment of open and honest dialogue, and where sharing experiences in business was commonplace, we could all have somewhere to learn more, and to perhaps give a little back too.
In 2011, after years of development, I came up with the concept of Knowledge Networking™ as a way for a community of business owners to engage in social learning. Out of this concept Mountaintop University was brought to life as a systematic approach to making knowledge interactive. Although our gurus busily provide content, the community isn’t meant to only read, listen and/or watch passively, they expected to participate by adding their “little bit” to the collective knowledge base too. Through web-based and offline opportunities, we connect with and learn business principles, best practices, skills and techniques from other professions – and together everyone Gives Understanding and Receives Understanding (G.U.R.U.).
At Mountaintop University we often talk about how many people are in business today that didn’t study business in high school, let alone college or graduate school. And yet, so many of us are still drawn to business - whether it is in our own business or not - and the knowledge that fires our imagination about what “our” business could become.
Whatever the reasons that you got into business, and even if you have a college degree, there are some things that are simply never taught in any classroom – and it is in that absence that we strive to provide our community with valuable knowledge. This is why we refer to Mountaintop University as a community that exists somewhere between the formal learning of the classroom, and the place most business people find themselves - wondering if they are on the right path, doing the right things, and whether or not they will achieve their goals.
The path to clarity is not an easy one, and finding the right insight from a trusted coach, mentor, or guru shouldn’t be an additional challenge. We are proud of the human knowledge we assemble each day, and look forward to you joining us in Knowledge Networking™.
