You’re busy, you’re the C.E.O of Everything and training is the last thing on your mind when you leave work each day, right? Wrong. Training and education should be the one aspect of your professional growth that you should always make time for. Education for you and especially your team is essential because of the constant shift in technology, processes and systems. As the Captain, you are steering your organization into the future and you cannot do that if you are not armed with the right information. Let’s face it the Miami Heat would not have made it to the playoffs if they didn’t sign LeBron James. They found a leader that continued to train himself on being the best at his game.
Don’t you want to build the best team possible? Don’t you want to motivate your employees to become apart of the growth process? Then stop saying you’re going to do and just do it! Now is the time to make the shift!
Change IS Good!
We all dislike change at times but we need it to keep the world around us evolving. Think about the last time you actually used a fax machine, or even sent a handwritten letter. Technology is what we all rely on for our businesses. In order to be more efficient and effective we have to understand how our company is being impacted by the change in technology. Once we understand that, then we must educate ourselves, our staff and adapt.
I Have No Time!
This phrase should be etched into our tombstones. It’s become apart of our everyday communication and we’ve started to believe it. That’s just an excuse. There are these things that they have now called webinars (is the light bulb going off now?) A webinar is a training or seminar conducted over the Internet. You can take the training right from the comfort of your own office. All you have to do is carve out the time to commit to educating yourself and learning something new. It’s that simple.
How Can They Call Themselves “Industry Experts?”
The answer is because “they” take the time to educate themselves to learn new things that put them ahead of the game. This means that they “may” know more than you (yes it’s true). Your competitors are working harder than you to make sure that they are in the know. That’s why everyone knows their name, customers keep talking about them and they continue to grow. Believe it or not, you too can become an industry expert if you take the time to invest in education and training.
Invest In YOU!
Guilt is something that many entrepreneurs wear like a wet blanket. It’s time to stop feeling guilty about spending money on you. It’s time to invest in your future and feel good about it. Don’t feel that it’s a waste of time or money. You are making a solid investment to become a better leader that runs a more effective company. You are the captain of this team, you lead by example and you set the tone for the future. Take the time and invest in You!
In the words of Sir Richard Branson, “My biggest motivation? Just to keep challenging myself. I see life almost like one long University education that I never had – everyday I’m learning something new.”
